Call for Abstract Proposals – Identity and Migration in Asian American Churches

Winter 2023 Issue

The next issue of ChristianityNext will focus on Identity and Migration in Asian American Churches. While there is continued interest in studies of identity and migration in Asian American communities, we invite deeper examination of their ecclesial intersections– especially in light of continued anti-Asian racism, institutional efforts towards diversity and inclusion, ongoing debates around critical race theory, new works related to Asian American theology (i.e., Daniel Lee’s Doing Asian American Theology, Cindy S. Lee’s Our Unforming: De-Westernizing Spiritual Formation, Robert Chao Romero and Jeff Liou’s Christianity and Critical Race Theory, etc.), and other recent developments. In so doing, this volume will explore the ecclesial intersections of identity and migration in Asian American church contexts. Researchers, educators, and ministry leaders are invited to consider submitting an abstract proposal.

ChristianityNext, the journal of Innovative Space for Asian American Christianity (ISAAC), offers a platform for scholars, practitioners, and church leaders to explore issues related to cutting edge Asian American Christianity. Our journals have addressed issues including movements and trends in Asian American Christianity; faith and justice; mental health; church leadership; gender construction and performance; and spiritual, cultural, and social issues in Asian American Christianity. Readership consists of academics, ecclesial leaders, and field practitioners. ChristianityNext seeks original submissions in the following areas:

  • Scholarly Peer-Reviewed Articles – Double-blind review of articles based on scholarly research and literature review
  • Practitioner Articles – Articles drawn from the practical wisdom of practitioners and Christian leaders in the field
  • Book Reviews – Short essays in review of emerging books and media.

We support article submissions from diverse disciplines and fields that offer Asian American Christianity emerging conversations and ideas. Scholarly articles are double-blind reviewed where neither the author nor the reviewer knows the identity of the other.

Guidelines: Abstract submission should not exceed 500 words. Please use a 12-point font and 1-inch margins. Submit abstracts according to The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. for general style, references, and citations.
