FTE/ISAAC Bilateral Summer Internship

August 31, 2016

We are pleased to announce that the Forum for Theological Exploration granted ISAAC a summer pastoral internship starting for 2015 and 2016. Four Korean American young adults will be assigned to four historically black congregations to learn from their histories and spiritual legacies. We have devoted the year 2015 to our ongoing bilateral Together series with African American and Asian American faith leaders.

The bilateral internship is our latest effort to engage Korean American young adults with African American church histories and legacies. The interns will learn and serve in their assigned African American congregations and be mentored by a team of pastoral and lay leaders, as well as by the ISAAC project director. Furthermore, the interns will meet weekly for support and peer mentoring. At the end of the internship, a worship service with the theme of calling will be held at one of the participating churches. Interns will share about their experiences, and members of the mentoring team will also have an opportunity to address the congregation and advocate the pursuit of God’s call. Public conversation will be initiated on a topic that is seldom broached in the Asian immigrant church.
