In 1996, Dr. James Chuck published a report documenting the growth of Chinese congregations in five Bay Area counties from 1950 through the middle of 1996. In the 2008 report of the San Francisco Bay Area Chinese churches project, edited by James Chuck and Timothy Tseng, we revisit these same churches, identify new churches started since 1996, make note of changes, and update the church profiles.The report also contains essays by Dean Adachi, Ken Carlson, Johnson Chiu, Virstan Choy, James Chuck, Russell Jeung, Ricky Manalo, Donald Ng, Victor Quan, Steve Quen, Chloe Sun, and Timothy Tseng, and Russell Yee.

Asian American Christian Perspectives Reader

The Pacific Asian American and Canadian Christian Education project (PAACCE) and the Institute for the Study of Asian American Christianity (ISAAC) are delighted to announce the publication of Asian American Christianity: A Reader (available December 2008). The reader is a collection of historical, sociological, theological, and personal essays that offer insight into Asian American Christianity, past and present. Both scholarly and accessible, the essays in this reader will be useful teaching resources for educators and church leaders.

Asian American Religious Leadership Today

This report was conducted by a team of well-known Asian American scholars on behalf of the Pulpit and Pew Project at Duke Divinity School. It was co-sponsored by the PANA Institute and the L2 Foundation, with assistance from the Graduate Theological Union and the American Baptist Seminary of the West. The report included evangelical, mainline Protestant, and Roman Catholic perspectives. Several members of the study team, including ISAAC, are conducting follow-up research projects.

Equipping and Resource Center [Spring 2009]

ISAAC is developing a core curriculum that will integrate Asian American studies and ISAAC research projects into laity and staff training as well as college and theological education. Contextualized classes and workshops for lay leaders and pastors in subjects such as Sunday School teaching, the history of Asian American Christianity, spiritual formation in Asian American ministries, college admissions counseling, etc. will be offered in the Bay Area in the Spring.
